Switch names on reservation
- - Name change on the reservation was easy.
- - Lobby and room photos did not match reality.
- - The room was filthy and not as shown.
I was able to switch the name on the reservation with no problem, but once we got that settled we realized the lobby pictures that was on the site didnt look like nothing we saw in person, then once we stepped foot in the room it was deceiving and different from what posted on the hotels.com site also. The room was beyond disgusting and seedy beyond what I wouldve thought and have the pictures to prove it.
Long story short I couldnt get a refund but was offered $25 in rewards points. Never again *** hotels.com!

Need to check properties
- - Motel 6 in E Dania looked good in pictures but was dirty and sketchy.
- - First room not cleaned; second found after roaming; staff unfriendly.
We booked Motel 6 in E Dania in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
It looked like a nice place based on pictures. When we got there, this place was NASTY! They gave me 2 different rooms that were sketchy. We found out by first appearance and walking into their lobby that the pictures are corporate not reality.
Back to the rooms, the first room hadnt been cleaned and as we walked to our room we could other rooms were in the same condition. I went down and the hotel staff person was so unfriendly. She was worse when I told her the room hadnt been clean and there were several rooms in the state. She found the second room.
We finally found our room, after walking around because there was no rhyme or reason to numbering. We went into the second room. The beds had a sheet on each bed and a pillow. The phone was unplugged and wires were sticking out.
We could smell smoke and marijuana and we had minors with us.
We were getting bit and when lifting the mattress, there was blood. Not ok!
- Need to get accurate photos not standard from chains
Preferred solution: Full refund
User's recommendation: Hotels.com didn’t do anything to get my money back. Go online and look at reviews because this motel has pictures posted of what it really looks. Hotels.com’s staff are not in US and use a script. I’ll find my own hotels in the future!

Verified Reviewer |Took money, failed to make reservation with hotel
As a third-party booking service, Hotels.com was supposed to make a reservation for us at the Sonesta Select Boston Milford hotel in Milford, Massachusetts for November 25, 2025. This was adding on to a reservation we had made about 15 minutes earlier for November 26-30.
Hotels.com took our money and issued a receipt. However, they then failed to transmit the information about the November 25 reservation and the requisite portion of the payment to the hotel. As a result, when we arrived at the hotel at approximately 5:30 PM on November 25, there was no record of the reservation for November 25 on the hotel's computer because Hotels.com had failed to complete the hotel side of the service. We showed the hotel clerk the receipt from Hotels.com, but he could not accept that; there had to be a transaction between Hotels.com and the hotel, and Hotels.com had failed to make that transaction.
He told us that we needed to call Hotels.com and get an agent to fix the error. We called Hotels.com multiple times, but eventually determined that they only have an automated phone tree capable of a limited number of functions, none of which were appropriate. We did not need to make, cancel, or change a reservation--we needed to prove that the hotel would be properly compensated for our existing reservation--and there was no means to speak to an agent or leave a message. We are convinced that the clerk did not make an error in searching for our reservation because he found the first reservation we had made, which covered the four days from November 26 to November 30.
In addition, we realized later that we had received an upselling email from the hotel on November 20 that refers to the reservation starting on November 26, not November 25. This further indicates that while Hotels.com had added the date on the customer side and charged us for it, they had failed to add it on the hotel side. From my conversation with an agent in Capital One's Disputes Department at 3:42 PM on March 5, 2026, Hotels.com justified the chargeback of $96.52 by saying that we were a no-show and had not canceled our reservation before the deadline. They are completely mistaken.
We *did* show up at the hotel, and we *did* try to claim our reservation--only to find that Hotels.com had failed to complete the reservation with the hotel. We did not want to cancel or change the reservation. In fact, we ended up having to pay the hotel directly because Hotels.com had failed to provide the service for which we had contracted with them. We even called Hotels.com's customer-service line before their 6 PM deadline trying to reach someone who could fix our reservation.
-----
We disputed the charge with our credit-card company, Capital One.
Capital One's Dispute-Department agent claimed that Capital One is required to follow rules set by Visa, which appear to leave it up to the merchant to act in a reasonable manner. Based on the complaints at the BBB, it looks very much as if Hotels.com takes advantage of this policy to ensure that disputes are resolved in their favor, regardless of evidence of their wrongdoing.
(In this case, we provided receipts, screenshots of emails, and phone records to substantiate our story. Hotels.com simply showed that we had paid them and that they have a cancellation policy--which isn't relevant.)
...Now on to the BBB and state attorneys general, and to see if a law professor I know is interested in working on a class-action lawsuit.

User's recommendation: Do not book through Hotels.com, ever. Your credit-card company cannot help you if Hotels.com fails to deliver

Verified Reviewer |- - Prepaid reservation not refunded despite hotel manager's promise.
- - Hotels.com is delaying the refund, affecting a disabled traveler.
do not book with the site. I did everything I could to cancel a reservation that I made, and it was prepaid.
The manager of the hotel said I would get a full refund, but hotels.com is holding this up. They are basically stealing over $1000 from my handicapped person who had a reservation at a resort for a few days to use the hot tub for therapeutic reasons. The hot tub broke, and they informed me of this, and the manager said I could have a full refund. However, hotels.com doesn't think so.
This is bad customer service. They are basically stealing from a poor disabled person. I'll still be paying for this trip in a year, and I've never gone on it.
But hotels.com is OK with that. They call that fair!

Verified Reviewer |We have been customers of hotels.com...
- - We used hotels.com for 35+ years and will not be using it.
- - Maintenance issues included light bulbs, TVs, showers, and remotes.
We have been customers of hotels.com for over 35 years. Going forward, we will not be using your service.
We have settled for over 35 years with receiving maintenance rooms—rooms that need maintenance, rooms that have missing light bulbs, rooms with broken TVs, rooms with holes in the shower, and rooms where the TV remotes don't work. Most of the issues have been minor up until our stay in Lubbock at the Embassy Suites. We checked in at 6:00; our room was HOT80. We turned down the A/C and waited for relief.
We were too exhausted to change rooms, and the room didn't cool off to 76 (not very cool) by morning. We called the front desk in the morning to report the problem, and he was very dismissive, not even wanting to know what the problem was. When we told him the A/C didn't work, he told us we should have called last night and a maintenance man would have been sent to fix it. NOT THE ANSWER WE WANTED TO HEAR.
The last straw was the Hampton Inn in Lubbock. It also needed maintenance. The shower spray was working at 50%. Most of the water that should have been spraying out of the shower head was being wasted through the tub spigot.
We loved your app for planning long trips, but have lost patience with the maintenance room issue. Your discount and reward program are no longer worth it to receive substandard rooms.
I will try to use our rewards money for one more stay. Then we are done.

Verified Reviewer |Refund
- - Reserved at Super 8 Plainview TX; canceled via Hotels.com.
- - Hotel said cancellation didn't go through; refunds blocked; insurance didn't cover.
I had made a reservation at the Super 8 by Wyndham in Plainview, TX, because there were none available in Lubbock. One became available in Lubbock, so I reserved it.
I called the hotel directly to cancel and was told I had to go through Hotels.com. I got in and canceled. Apparently, something went wrong on their end because they told me it was not canceled. I had 5 chat conversations before finally being told the hotel refused a waiver.
I called the hotel again to be told their policy restrictions would not allow them to refund.
I did purchase insurance, yet that particular instance was not listed as a reason for submission. I feel Hotels.com should have to cover it if the hotel won't.

- Inability to speak to a human lack of follow ups

Verified Reviewer |Will not stop calling
These guys claim you have unused travel credit that you've already paid for all you need to do is pay the booking fee, they drop the price from $997, to $597 to $497. Then offer a cruise and extra vacations ontop of that.
I've have gotten 2-3 calls a day from this company for the last 2 months.
They will not stop calling me even after asking to stop.
They purchase leads from Bluegreen and other travel companies and then say you purchased from them but just never booked your vacations which is not true.
It is a timeshare meeting, you go, attend a meeting that takes 2-3 hours, then you get your vacation, which is fine... but their marketing and calls are predatory and damn near harassments at this point.
They will call from a phone number with an area code related to your phone number.
They will lie and say you've already purchased the travel credits you just need to pay the booking fee, which is a lie.
User's recommendation: Report them
Cancellation
- - I got an apartment today and will move in tomorrow.
- - I canceled the remaining 5 nights and was charged full at check-in after asking to pay daily.
I got an apartment today and will move in tomorrow morning so I need to cancel the remaining 5 nights. They charged me for the full amount upon check-in even though I told them I preferred to pay day by day as I had appointments to look at two apartments and wanted to move before I started work on 12/2.
User's recommendation: Do not stay here, it’s dirty, in need of repairs and the kitchen is bare, not even so much as a glass or a coffee maker.

- - They kept my $100 deposit and tried to charge $100 four times for towels.
- - Dirty honeymoon suite with garbage and a broken hot tub.
They took my deposit and attempted to take another $100 out of my account 4 different times For dirty towels! If you review the cameras I came to the lobby and asked for towels cause my fiance had a accident!
They refused to give me towels to clean up the mess! So I had to use the towels in the room! Which by doing that as I go to checkout the keep my deposit of a $100 and then they attempted to take more money of of my account for 3 towels they charged me $200 cause they where dirty. When all they had to do was wash them!

- - Online booking may require cash on arrival.

- - Booking online is to secure the room; I won't book again.
I didnt know if you paid and booked online that you were required to pay in cash too sometimes people dont keep cash on them and thats an inconvenience why not just wait until you get there and pay in cash the reason for booking online is so you can have the room for you when you get there you never will have to worry about me booking with this company again
